Fall Brights
September 30, 2015
This Old Navy dress has been in my closet since college, and I don't foresee getting rid of it any time soon. It's one of those pieces I go back to again and again because it's a classic silhouette and so easy to wear. It came in lots of different colors at the time, and I'm honestly still kicking myself for not buying it in each and every color they had. I always find pieces that I absolutely love and have such a hard time picking a color, and then end up wishing I had bought multiples. Lesson learned!
J.Crew Herringbone Vest
September 29, 2015
In case you couldn't tell, I love vests for Fall. They're so easy to wear, and are great if you're going to be in and out of buildings or your weather isn't quite fitting the season yet. This vest made it's way into my closet last year after I patiently waited for J.Crew factory to restock it. They actually have a whole section of their site dedicated to puffer vests now, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eyeing a few of the other ones they have! It's the perfect weight for this time of year, and adds dimension to your outfit without a ton of fuss.
Weekend Recap: Fenway Park
September 28, 2015
This past Saturday, Kyle and I got the opportunity to go to Fenway to see the Red Sox play the Orioles. Going to the stadium was something Kyle had always wanted to do, and it was on my Boston bucket list, so we each got to cross something off our lists! It had been a while since I had been to a professional baseball game, and the last stadium I had been in was Minute Maid in Houston, which has an enclosed field where they can open the roof or leave it closed when the weather isn't ideal. For those of you who haven't been, Fenway is a totally open park, and I have to say there was something magical about sitting in the stadium and watching America's pastime. If you're in Boston, and have any interest in baseball or the history of the city, I highly recommend coming to a game, or touring the stadium if you have the time!
Athleisure
September 25, 2015
I would love to sit here and tell y'all that I wear "real" clothes every day, but more often than not, you can find me in some version of what you see above. Unless I have a meeting or event, it's just a lot easier for me to wear athletic clothes. Pecan and I take multiple walks per day, and spend quite a bit of time at the park, and it never fails that every time I wear something cute to the park, a dog gets dirt, drool or some combination of the two on me.
J.Crew Sequin Tank
September 24, 2015
Pixie Pant (also on sale!) // Purse (old), similar
When you don't have the option to run out and find a new outfit for an event, it becomes a fun challenge to find new outfits and pair your pieces in ways you hadn't thought before. That's exactly what I've been doing this past month. It's been making me go beyond my style "comfort zone" and put together things I probably wouldn't have thought of otherwise. I've had this Lauren Conrad blush jacket for a while now, but hadn't worn it in quite sometime. I was looking for something to go over this sequin tank I picked up a while back, and loved how the soft color of the jacket contrasted the olive green and sparkles of the tank. A little feminine and a little edgy has become one of my favorite ways to pair outfits and I can't wait to use this little formula all fall!
New Season, New Goals
September 23, 2015
Today is the day. Fall is officially here! I say officially, because if we're all being honest here, fall really started the day the pumpkin spice latte hit Starbucks menu. I've already expressed to y'all that fall is my absolute favorite season because of the activities, the foods, and of course the fashion, but it's also my favorite season because it's always felt like the beginning of the year to me. And with a that "fresh start" feeling in the air, I thought I would share some of my goals for this season with y'all. Some are a little less serious than others, but they've all made it onto my list for one reason or another!
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
September 22, 2015
Living Proof PHD Dry Shampoo (c/o) // Living Proof PHD Shampoo (c/o)
Living Proof PHD Conditioner (c/o) // Living Proof PHD 5 in 1 Treatment (c/o)
I'm going to be completely honest with y'all. There is nothing I dread more in my beauty routine than washing, blow drying, and styling my hair. If I could afford to have someone style my hair every day, I definitely would. So, when I got the invitation from Living Proof for an event to show off their Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo, I was beyond excited to try it out. I mean, a company who's motto is "wash less, live more" is definitely speaking my language.
Cozy Cashmere
September 21, 2015
Before moving to Boston, cashmere was definitely not on my radar. I always thought it was silly to spend the extra money on a sweater just because it was cashmere. But oh, have I learned the error in my ways. We were in Freeport, Maine at the Patagonia store this past summer, and Kyle was looking for a big, puffy jacket. I just was not ready to make that sort of commitment considering it was still warm outside, so I was over in the sweater section looking for layering items. That's when I found this gem of a cashmere sweater on major, major sale and decided to give it a try. Yesterday it finally got cool enough for me to wear this sweater, and I'm totally converted. It was so soft and cozy that I didn't want to take it off! I can't say that I would ever pay full price for anything cashmere considering you can usually find options on sale, but this will definitely not be my last cashmere piece. I can't seem to find this particular sweater anywhere online, but I'll link some similar ones below!
The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up
September 19, 2015
As we're over half way through September, I thought I would give y'all a little update on my goal of not shopping for unnecessary items throughout the month as well as share my thoughts from one of my recently read books. When I started out the month, I had no idea what to expect as I'm a pretty avid shopper. Online shopping tends to be worse than in-store for me, because Kyle and I often have our iPads or computer out during the evening after dinner. He reads articles, I shop. It's definitely not the most productive way to spend my time, but it's relaxing, and there haven't been many decent TV shows on lately. (PSA: #TGIT comes back the 24th!) Now, I would love to sit here and tell you that I've totally given up online shopping in the evenings and have started doing more productive things with my time, but the truth is, I still browse, I just don't buy.
Plaid Pullover & Fur Vest
September 18, 2015
BCBG Pumps
September 17, 2015
Clutch (thrifted) similar // Bracelets: David Yurman
Transitioning Chambray + Madewell
September 15, 2015
So y'all have definitely seen this dress before. This month is going to be all about utilizing what I currently have in my closet as I'm not shopping for the month of September. I posted about this dress about a month ago showing how I would style it for summer, and now I'm styling it for fall along with one of my very favorite new fall accessories, this Madewell hat. I never considered myself a hat person before I jokingly tried this one on back when Kyle's family was in town, and to my surprise, I fell in love with it! I wore it all around town the next day, and while I don't recommend wearing it on a Duck Tour, it paired so well with jeans and a tunic! I definitely have become a hat person, and will be looking for some more to add to my collection once September is over.
Fall Bucket List: Picking Apples
September 14, 2015
This past weekend Kyle and I crossed off picking apples from my fall bucket list! I love apples, so as soon as we found out we were moving to this part of the country, I knew it was something I just had to do. We went to Parlee Farms, which is about 25 minutes from our apartment. It's the cutest little place where you can buy or pick your own apples, walk through fields of zinnias and sunflowers, and grab an ice cream from their farmstand. We ended up picking 10 pounds of apples, which is a lot less than I thought it would be, but we will definitely be eating quite a few apples in the next week!
The Weekender - Vol. 9
September 12, 2015
For this past week being so short, it sure felt like a lot happened. On Tuesday, I lost everything I had on my computer, and while it definitely is not a fun thing to go through, it wasn't the absolute worst. Thank goodness we have social media to share photos, and the Cloud to save things from our phones, computers and iPads. I'm thankful my most important photos were saved somewhere else, and that I didn't end up having to buy a new computer, but trust me, this girl has learned her lessen when it comes to backing things up. If you don't already have one, go buy an external hard drive - it'll save you a lot of panic if anything ever does happen!
Cozy Home Essentials for Fall
September 11, 2015
With Labor Day officially come and gone, it' time to start gearing up for Fall. While I would love to be running around in vests, long sleeves and riding boots, our weather isn't cooperating just yet. So, instead of forcing the fall outfits, I'm starting with our home! Because our storage space in the apartment is pretty limited, I'm not going all out with a bunch of different decor, but rather little touches here and there.
11 Beauty Must-Haves
September 10, 2015
I'm going to start out this post by saying I've got pretty normal skin. I'll have episodes of dry skin or oily skin based off what the weather is doing, and I generally just do minor adjustments to my routine that help get my skin back to normal. I'll also say that I'm not overly adventurous when it comes to beauty products, just because it can get really expensive, and it may or may not perform how I want it to. Once I find something that works, I stick with it for a while...and by that I mean years! I thought I would share with y'all all my current favorites, some newer than others, but all here to stay in my routine and ones that I will gladly repurchase over and over again!
Labor Day Weekend Recap
September 8, 2015
I don't think I've enjoyed a three day weekend this much in a long time. We really just went with the flow which normally drives my type A personality crazy, but for some reason it didn't bother me one bit all weekend. Maybe I'm getting old, or maybe I should realize it's okay not to have every minute planned out.
We spent Saturday just relaxing and breaking in the new camera by shooting some looks for fall (stay tuned!). On Sunday morning I took a class at Pure Barre and in the afternoon we went to the Minute Man National Park in Concord. We had been to Concord before to check out some of the little shops and restaurants they have, but hadn't been to the park. The afternoon was spent walking around and just taking in all the pretty views. There were lots of people kayaking, paddle boarding, and biking as well. If you love the outdoors and/or history, this is definitely a place to visit!
The Weekender - Vol. 8
September 5, 2015
I really can't believe Labor Day Weekend is already here. We had beautiful weather yesterday, and dare I say it felt like the start of fall. It's always been my favorite season, and I can't wait to actually get to experience one with real temperature changes, pretty colors, and of course, have a reason to wear all my favorite clothes. I'm pretty excited about some fall posts coming to the blog soon. We had been using an older camera to take the pictures for posts, and sadly, it died on us a few weeks ago. Hence the lack of style posts on the blog lately. But, we finally replaced it with a newer model camera, and both Kyle and I are excited to start shooting again!
No Shop September
September 1, 2015
I'm just going to let the title of this post sink in for a minute...if you know me at all, you know how much I love to shop, and just how hard this little challenge is going to be for me. I've been thinking about doing a month of no shopping for a while now, but I kept coming up with excuses. Show me something I just "have to have" and I can come up with a dozen justifications for why I should buy it. I just had to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale because honestly, who can resist the upcoming season's fashion on discount? Not to mention moving into a new space caused us to need some new furniture and maybe just a few decorative items. See how easy it is?
