Transitioning Winter White

Whew! This week was a bit of a busy one and I am oh so ready for the weekend! I made the mistake of meal planning about a hundred new recipes to try this week without thinking how busy my week was going to be. At one point everything in the kitchen was dirty. I literally had to do dishes just so I could turn around and get them dirty again! Only 18 more days until I can have that weekend latte, but who’s counting?
Whole 30 Update
February 24, 2016
I’m officially 10 days into my Whole 30 program. For those of you who have been following me
on any form of social media, I apologize for all the snaps, tweets, and posts
about food, but it’s been like an extra little accountability check for
me. So if I go missing on social media,
you’ll know I’ve fallen off the sugar deep end!
Something I learned about this process in the first ten days is that it
really is only as hard as you make it.
If you plan poorly and surround yourself with temptations 24/7, you’re
more likely to fail. Instead, do you
research, prepare as much as possible, surround yourself with a positive
environment and support system and you have all the tools you need to be
successful!
Spring Trend: Lace + Utility
February 22, 2016
Bracelets: Bourbon & Boweties, Alex & Ani (all linked below)
I don’t know about y’all, but I am more than ready for a change when it comes to my wardrobe. It’s not helping one bit that every time I go shopping or browse online I love just about everything I’m seeing for spring. And not to jinx us, but we had some absolutely beautiful spring-like weather this past weekend! There are lots of trends that I’m looking forward to, but the one I’m looking forward to the most is the mixture of lace and utility pieces. There’s so many ways this can be done and it’s an easy trend to transition you from winter to spring! It also works for a lot of different styles because it’s a mixture of romantic feminine pieces and edgier more masculine ones.
Date Night
February 17, 2016
Bracelets: David Yurman (all linked below!)
Date night for us usually consists of going out to eat and then a movie. We have the best movie theatre near our apartment, hands down. They have smaller screening rooms with automatic reclining leather chairs where you can pre-select your seats before you even buy tickets. That’s probably my favorite part because I cannot stand sitting close to the screen – talk about a headache! Oh, and another favorite (pre-whole 30) was definitely their self-serve ICEEs in rather large cups. It’s honestly the next best thing to watching a movie from the comfort of your own home. We’ve definitely become a little spoiled when it comes to watching movies, and this little theatre will be something I miss when we move in the future.
Whole 30
February 15, 2016
Whole 30 is a term you’ve probably heard thrown around at some point or another in the past few years. But in case you haven’t been curious enough to check it out, I’ll start out with briefly explaining the program. It is a 30-day period where you reset your body from the unhealthy cravings, patterns and habits by eliminating foods commonly associated with having a negative impact on your body and implementing a diet focused on eating real food. By eliminating sugar, grains, legumes, alcohol and dairy for 30 days and then (if you choose to) reintroducing them to your diet one by one you are able to identify what, if any, foods you could possibly be sensitive to. You can read the program in its entirety here, and if you’re interested in trying it, I highly recommend reading the book It Starts With Food so you understand the science and why behind the Whole 30 program.

So remember when I said I would be complaining about the weather in no time? Well, that time has come my friends. It snowed all day yesterday. All. Day. In less than 24 hours, I’ve gone completely stir crazy. I’ve been a busy body every since I can remember and will use any excuse to get out of the house. Starbucks run? We need something from the store? I’m out the door in less than five. But not yesterday. I’m not the best driver to begin with, and didn’t think adding the challenge of snow was a great idea. To make matters worse, the ingredients I needed to make dinner last night had gone bad, forcing me to get a little adventurous in the kitchen. So, where’s that “early” spring Phil promised?
The Classics
February 4, 2016
One of my goals this past fall was to try another spin class. After trying a class at a small fitness studio and having a bad experience, I was really hesitant to try another one. I kept putting off signing up at another studio because I thought that they would all be pretty similar. Finally last week I talked myself into signing up for a class and I cannot believe the world of a difference between my last experience and this one. The people really do make a difference!
