reading reccommendations summer reads poolside books big little lies nest the good wife thrillers page turners

My reading habits have gone downhill pretty quickly as of late because by the time I sit down to relax I'm honestly just wanting to zone out and turn off my brain completely.  Insert HGTV and other mindless TV shows we've been watching in the evenings.  But, I did want to share three page turners I have read recently in case you're looking for a book to take with you on vacation or just wanting to pick up your next read!

Nest by Terry Goodkind

I got this one as a Christmas gift and was excited to dive into a new book.  This one is set in Chicago,  has a little bit of mystery, suspense and action.  It starts out with a murder that exposes a much larger plot and some rather unsavory things about human nature.  The author dives deep into some of the details which made it a bit slow at times, but I found that I didn't want to put it down because I wanted to know how it ended!  I think I read somewhere that this one will become a series, and if so, I'm excited to read the sequels as well.

The Twilight Wife by A.J. Banner

I saw someone recommend this on snapchat as a quick, suspenseful read so I decided to download it to my Kindle.  Although this was not my favorite book on this list, I did find myself unable to put it down because I just had to figure out what happen to the main character.  I thought I had everything figured out several times throughout the book, but the ending did surprise me a bit!  This is the perfect book to read on the beach or while traveling this summer.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

When I picked this one up I found the receipt from when I bought it back in 2014.  Why it took me so long to read this book I have no idea because holy cow, it is so good!  They've recently turned this into a 7 part series on HBO and the cast (Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman) is what sparked me to pick up the book again.  It's the perfect mixture of mystery, crime and "small town" gossip.  Since finishing the book, Kyle and I have watched the series and while I loved the series, I think the book is much, much better!

Have you read any of these, if so, what do you think?  And always, send me your recommendations as I'm always looking for new books!

xo,
Kathryn

moving home announcement texas shaped cookie decorated royal icing sugar cookie

Remember that good news I mentioned in my last Life Lately post?  Well, here it is - we're moving back to Texas!  We shared our good news with our family and friends and I'm so excited to finally share it with you!  We always knew that getting back to Texas was something we eventually wanted to do, but really had no idea of when or how it was going to come about.  Recently the opportunity presented itself and we were overjoyed at the idea of being closer to our family and friends!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017

nordstrom anniversary sale 2017 review picks fall fashion preview style

I know the Anniversary Sale posts can be a little (or a lot) overwhelming this time of year because every blogger and their mom decides to post about all these fall essential pieces you need when its about a million degrees outside.  And before you jump on me because I've done posts like this in the past, I'm changing it up this year -  no collages and no #musthaves list - I'm simply going to share with you what I try on in store or spot online, how it fits and whether or not I actually think its a good buy.  Now before we get started, I wanted to preface all of this by saying I'm here to give you my honest review of things.  I always look to fellow bloggers and other consumer's reviews before purchasing and that's something I really appreciate when shopping, so I want to give you the same courtesy!

Life Lately

life lately peony season mrs on the move subway tile backsplash grey quartz countertops

To say life has been a little crazy lately would definitely be an understatement!  This time of year is always a little crazy for us as a family, but this year it seems more so than usual.  We've got some exciting things happening that I will be sharing on here shortly, but until then I'll catch you up on what we've been up to lately!

First, we're in the process of selling a home we own back in Texas.  The phrase "adulting is hard" has never, ever felt more relevant than it does when you're in the process of selling a home.  I've been back and forth to Texas multiple times and I never thought I would say this, but renting a dumpster was possibly one of the best decisions I've made in my adult life.  I'm thinking of doing a post about tips for selling your first home, so if that's something you'd be interested in - let me know!  I also want to take the time to thank our families.  They have been instrumental in helping us throughout this process and I will never be able to thank them enough!
life lately gallery park update

Although we've fallen off the paleo/Whole30 wagon as of late, we have been doing a lot of walking outside since the weather has been so nice.  Some days walking Pecan is a chore (especially during the winter), but walking in our nearby park has been as good as therapy lately!  Most things in our life are pretty hectic and going a million miles an hour so I really cherish the opportunity to slow down for that hour.  When I have been making paleo meals at home, I'm reaching for a fast recipe like this beef and broccoli and this green bean stir-fry.

I also recently tried an aerial silks class - if you follow me on social media you might have seen a few snaps from it!  It's unlike anything I've ever tried before and I've had quite a few people ask about it since, so look for a post about it as well.  Sadly I haven't been able to do much shopping, so I haven't had too much on the fashion front to share with you #Iliveinleggings, but you better bet I'm prepping for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  Early access starts later this week so be sure to check back for all my picks!

I can't tell you how much I've missed writing blog posts lately, so I promise you will be seeing me more regularly on here from now on!  Have a great rest of your week!

xo,
Kathryn
