Burlington Farmer's Market

July 31, 2015

I love to shop local whenever I can.  There's just something about knowing where the product came from and that my money is going to stay in the community rather than be funneled through a large company.  When I found out exactly where we would be living, one of the first things I did was look to see if there was a farmer's market nearby, and to my luck, Burlington Farmer's Market is just a few minutes away from our apartment.  They're open every Thursday from 2:30-6:30, June through October.  Not only am I lucky to have one that's nearby, but one that's also open every week!  I definitely plan on making this one of my weekly errands, and can't wait to see what all the vendors, farmers and artisans have to offer throughout their season.

Wardrobe Staples: Accessories

July 28, 2015

It's time for the third installment in the wardrobe staples series, which is all about accessories!  I'm going to preface this post by saying some of these accessories require a little effort to find what works for you.  Like jewelry, accessories are pretty personal, just in a different way.  You may absolutely love something, but that doesn't necessarily mean it loves you.  But don't worry, you will find your signatures, and then you'll have something that's all your own!

Summer Chambray

July 27, 2015
Outfit Details:
Chambray Shirt  //  Chino Shorts  //  Palm Beach Sandals (in platinum, c/o)
Bracelets: Bourbon & Boweties, David Yurman, J.Crew, MantraBand
Purse  //  Sunglasses

There's not much I love more than a good chambray shirt, which is why it's become a part of my go-to summer uniform.  It's so easy to wear because, dare I say, it's definitely a neutral.  If I've got 10 minutes to get dressed, I can pull any of my pants, shorts, or skirts out of my closet and I guarantee you chambray will go with it.  You may be guilty of wearing a Canadian tuxedo if you pair it with denim bottoms, but I've certainly seen that pulled off as well.  Because my chambray is a long sleeve button down, I like to pair it with shorts during the day.  The 4" chinos from J.Crew are my favorite, because they're just the right length.

The Weekender - Vol. 4

July 25, 2015

This week I got to explore a little more of Boston when I attended a sunrise yoga class with Andrea Metcalf from Women's Forum at the Boston Harbor Hotel and had a fabulous dinner at Margarita's Mexican restaurant.  If you're looking to stay on the water, the hotel is absolutely gorgeous and is in a great area of town to go sight seeing.  You can check out my review of Margarita's Mexican restaurant here.  We still don't have all the furniture we need, and our TV is definitely still sitting on the floor...in front of our fireplace...which we realized yesterday probably wasn't the smartest thing we've ever done.  I'm definitely going to go ahead and blame Ikea for being out of the stuff on our shopping list.  Hopefully we'll have the motivation to get that fixed this weekend!

Margarita's Mexican + National Tequila Day

July 24, 2015

{Prickly Cactus Margarita}

If there's one thing this Texas girl has missed since our move to Boston, it's definitely Mexican food.  I'll be honest with y'all, I've been a little reluctant to try any restaurants up here because let's face it...we're pretty far north of the border.  When I got invited to try Margarita's Mexican restaurant in preparation for National Tequila Day, I was still slightly hesitant, yet excited at the possibility of finding somewhere to get my chips and salsa fix.

J.Crew New Arrivals

July 22, 2015

Chambray Button Down //  Sequin Tank  //  Iridescent Clutch  //  Striped Long Sleeve Tee
Peplum Top  //  Iridescent Earrings  //  Iridescent Pumps  //  Eyelet A-Line Skirt
Toothpick Jeans  //  Striped Tee  //  Tortoise Sunnies

I hate to say this, but I have not been loving anything from J.Crew lately.  Normally, I could walk into their store and pick out a million things I just "have to have" but I honestly haven't done that since last Christmas.  And then I got their new arrivals email yesterday morning... I know I swore I would be good after the damage from the NSale, but some of these just may have to make their way into my closet!

Wardobe Staples: Jewelry

July 21, 2015

For the second installment of the wardrobe staples series, I thought I would share with y'all one of my favorite parts of my wardrobe - jewelry!  To me, jewelry is a very personal thing, more so than any other part of your wardrobe.  When you're building the jewelry portion of your wardrobe, pick classic pieces that you can wear every day with whatever outfit you have on.   You'll instantly look pulled together with minimal effort.  When you start picking out your jewelry, you should start by choosing the metal color that goes best with your skin tone.  For me, it's yellow gold, so most of my pieces are going to be in that tone.  Don't get me wrong, I have silver and rose gold and love to mix them, but it just makes it so much easier when all your signature pieces are one color.

Nordstrom Tunic

July 20, 2015

Lush Roll Tab Sleeve Tunic  //  Pants are from Target - in store only (J.Crew Chino Cargo Pants)
Aviator Sunglasses  //  Sole Society Shoes - old (similar from J.Crew) //  Louis Vuitton Speedy 30
Diamond Necklace (similar)  //  Monogram Necklace // Stone Necklace - old (Similar)

I can't even pretend that I was good during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  The people at the front office totally judged me for the amount of packages that came for me in the past week.  I tried to justify it by saying I needed clothes for cold weather.  I mean, I am from Texas after all.  I may have felt slightly guilty for some of my purchases, but this tunic was not one of them.  I love it so much I bought it in every color - which is totally justifiable because even Kyle told me he liked it and that I should order more than one.  Now, why am I so crazy about this top?  It's so comfortable, I took my Sunday nap in it.  It's lightweight enough to wear now and will definitely look great under a vest for fall.  AND it's definitely long enough to wear over leggings with riding boots.  This is definitely not the last you'll see of this tunic.

The Weekender Vol. 3

July 18, 2015

{image via}
Well, Kyle and I survived our first full week in Boston.  We had absolutely gorgeous weather - one day it didn't get above 75 degrees, found a restaurant that we will definitely be "regulars" at, and got rid of all the cardboard boxes!  We're off to Ikea and Best Buy today to get some of the last necessities we need for the apartment.  I'll be so excited when it's done and I can finally share it with y'all!

What's in my bag?

July 17, 2015

I absolutely love reading posts about what is in people's bags whether it's for vacation, their makeup bag, or purse.  If I were a cat, curiosity would have killed me by now.  As far as my bag goes, I carry a lot of stuff with me and my bag usually weighs a ton.  Call me over prepared, but it's rare that I don't have something that I need.

Adaptable

July 15, 2015

It's time for another b bar linkup!  You can see last month's linkup here, and this month is all about what your hidden talents are.  When I first read this prompt, I literally had no idea how to answer.  I kept thinking...I have no hidden talents.  What are my non-hidden talents? Shouldn't I know these things at my age? Then I realized, even if you can't recognize them, you're already using your hidden talents.  They're what makes you different and unique. They're what makes you, you.  So, what's my hidden talent you ask?  With a little help from my friends, I figured out that I'm extremely adaptable.

Wardrobe Staples: Shoes

July 14, 2015

Before our stuff arrived in Boston, I was living out of my suitcase packed with about two weeks of clothes.  This was a total eye opener for me in more ways than one, and has inspired me to write this series of posts about wardrobe staples I think every woman should have in her closet.  Now what I'm about to say makes me feel almost sinful,  but  I honestly didn't miss the rest of my clothes.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good shopping spree as much as the next girl, but when you have the right things in your closet it can make life much, much easier.

{image via}
For the past 6 years I've moved at least once a year.  One summer I moved twice - not the smartest thing I've ever done - but it all worked out in the end.  I've learned quite a bit through all of these transitions, so I thought I would share with y'all my top tips for making a move.

The Weekender Vol. 2

July 11, 2015

For some reason my mind is still in vacation mode, and I don't know if it's sunk in that we really live in Boston.  There's so much to see and do that I don't know if this feeling will ever truly go away, and honestly, I'm okay with that.  Life is meant to be full of adventure, and Kyle and I are definitely on one right now!  We're spending the day unpacking boxes and getting everything set up in our new apartment.  I'm quickly learning that organization and finding the best way to utilize your space is a necessity in the city.

Maine Adventures

July 10, 2015

After we got to Boston, we had a little time to kill before we could actually enter our apartment.  So, believe it or not, Pecan, Kyle, his parents and I actually got back into the car for an impromptu road trip to Freeport and Ogunquin, Maine.  At first this started out as a quest for lobster stew, but it turned into a day of shopping, dinner overlooking a cove, and a walk as the sun set along the Atlantic.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

July 9, 2015

It's that time of year again!  The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is coming, and it's almost as good as Christmas (almost).  If you're not familiar with the sale, here's the run down.  Once a year, Nordstrom puts their fall fashion on sale for a period of time, and after that time, the prices will go up to full retail.  This year, the sale will start on July 9th (today!) for those with early access, and July 17th for the general public.  To gain early access, you've got to have a Nordstrom rewards card.  I know it can be a pain to open a credit card, but Nordstrom really does take care of their cardholders throughout the year with various rewards, a tailoring allowance, etc.
