One of my goals this year was to read more and until two
weeks ago I had barely picked up a book.
Don’t get me wrong I love to read.
Give me a cup of coffee or a good glass of wine and I and could spend
all day (or night) doing so, but for some reason I just couldn’t bring myself
to finish a book lately. I’d pick up a
book, read 20 pages, and then get totally distracted. I’ve finally gotten over my reading slump, so
I thought I would share with you five books I’ve recently read!
Career of Evil was the first book I picked up because it had been on my “to-read”
list the longest. It’s actually the
third in a series by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling) and each book is
better than the last. I love a good
mystery and the twists in this one did not disappoint. I highly recommend reading them in order, as
there are some aspects of character relationships you might miss if you read
them out of order!
Kyle had been trying to get me to read The Martian for a whole
year. I don’t normally reach for books with
a lot of science fiction and I had already seen the movie, so it was low on my
list. After reading it, I could kick
myself for not reading it before seeing the movie. This book had me literally laughing out loud
and is a book I think anyone can enjoy, no matter what they normally like to
read!
Me Before You is another one that sat on the shelves for quite some time. Although the storyline sounded good to me, I
just have to be in the right mood to read this kind of book. Once I finally sat down to read it, I could
not put it down. I fell asleep with this
book in my lap, and once I woke up I started reading it as soon as I had my cup
of coffee in hand. While the ending left
me pretty heartbroken, it did make me question a lot of things, which is one of
the best things a book can do for you!
Now I just need to see the movie!
The Luckiest Girl Alive was recommended as being similar to Gone Girl and
Girl on the Train, both of which are some of my favorite books to date. I don’t think this one quite compares to them
as I easily predicted the ending, but the storyline did keep me entertained and
turning the pages!
I picked up The Nest randomly one day as I thought it would be a light,
easy read and that’s just what it is.
It’s a story about four siblings that have drifted apart over the years
but are brought back together over an accident that threatens their
inheritance. This is a book I would take
to the beach or on a road trip!
When I was a kid, I went to almost all the midnight releases
of the Harry Potter books and movies and still watch the movie marathons on
TV. Kyle and I originally planned on
going to Barnes and Noble to get our copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at midnight the
day it came out, but I totally fell asleep on the couch while we were
waiting. I hate to admit it, but after
reading the play I’m glad we waited until the next morning to go and pick up
our copy. It was wonderful to be back in
the world of Harry Potter and the play was entertaining, but it was absolutely
nothing like the other books in the series.
If you keep the two separate and remember that the play was not written
by J.K. Rowling, I think you’ll like it a lot more than if you don’t!
Now, onto the best part of this post, the adorable coffee
mug and tote that I’ve been sipping my coffee out of every morning and toting my
books home from the library in! They’re
from the most adorable Etsy shop, Brinny K Designs. She
has some of the cutest coffee cups, wine glasses, ring holders and now tote bags! They’re perfect gifts for the recently
engaged or married girlfriends in your life, or a wonderful treat for
yourself. I have my eyes on this "Mrs." coffee mug and
how perfect is this personalized
Starbucks cup?!
I hope you’ve had a wonderful
week so far!
xoxo,
Kathryn
